The above permanent vacancy has arisen within the Fleet and Engineering Services Department based at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, Forest View Business Park, Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, CF72 8LX. Fleet & Engineering Services maintain a total vehicular fleet of circa 450 units plus 1,000 items of specialist plant equipment including operational plant and rescue ladders.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day diagnostics and repair of electrical systems, and installation of blue light warning systems both visual and audible. The working hours are Monday to Thursday 0800 to 1630 hours and Friday 0800 to 1300 hours, with half an hour for lunch each day. The post holder will be required to participate in the services 24 hour on call emergency standby system, which will involve some unsociable hours and weekend work. This role involves frequent travel between sites throughout the South Wales area using Service transport.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
• A City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 qualification in Auto Electrical or relevant industry experience.
• Experience of diagnostics, fault finding, repair and maintenance of all modern major manufacturer-based vehicles and plant electrical systems.
• The ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
• The ability to install emergency light systems.
• A full valid UK Category B Driving Licence.

The successful candidate will be subject to a satisfactory Driving Licence check, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Drug and Alcohol Test and Medical Screening prior to an appointment being made.

Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential for this post.
