Central Stores Manager – Avon Fire and Rescue Service

Summary of role

As the Central Stores Manager, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring that AF&RS has the necessary equipment and supplies to keep our operations running smoothly. Reporting to the Station Manager of Technical Services, you’ll implement and contribute to the procurement strategy that delivers value for money while ensuring that every item – from operational equipment PPE and operational garments (including PPE and operational equipment that is stocked for emergency issue when needed), to vehicle parts and stationery – is accounted for and readily available when needed.

Some of the things you will be doing

• Maintain accurate computerised and manual records of goods received, stock levels, issues, and returns. Ensure that all stock is secure and managed efficiently to prevent loss or pilferage.
• Manage and motivate a small team, ensuring that performance requirements are met and the team is suitably staffed. Arrange training and development to maximize team efficiency.
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of potentially hazardous goods by providing relevant Health & Safety Data Sheets.
• Responsible for the receipt and recording of other non-stores deliveries being made to the site, for collection by other AF&RS staff.  Ensure the items’ security until collected from the Stores area.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers’ representatives to ensure that stocked items are obtained from the most appropriate sources and within an acceptable timescale, in liaison with the Supplies & Procurement Team when necessary, so that AFRS receives value for money at all times
• Handle other non-store deliveries to the site and carry out any additional responsibilities as agreed with your line manager.
